Reckless and PlentyChess: Two Top Chess Engines Now on Chessify
Reckless reached the TCEC Superfinal. PlentyChess helped pioneer a new approach to neural-network evaluation. Now you can analyze with both on Chessify.
What does it take to challenge Stockfish at the highest level of computer chess?
Reckless did exactly that in 2026, reaching the Superfinal of the prestigious Top Chess Engine Championship (TCEC). Meanwhile, PlentyChess has established itself among the world’s strongest chess engines, contributing innovations in neural-network evaluation.
Ranked #2 and #3 respectively in an October 2026 chess engine rating list, behind only Stockfish, Reckless and PlentyChess are now available on Chessify, bringing two more world-class engines to your cloud analysis toolkit.
You can analyze your games, explore critical positions, and compare their recommendations with Stockfish and other leading engines — all from your browser, without downloading or installing anything.

Reckless: The Engine That Challenged Stockfish
Developed by Arseniy Surkov and contributors, Reckless is an open-source chess engine written in Rust. Since its first release in 2023, it has climbed rapidly through the computer chess rankings.
Its biggest milestone came in TCEC Season 29 (2026), when Reckless finished second in the Premier Division and advanced to the Superfinal to face Stockfish. After a 100-game match, Stockfish won 59–41, with Reckless finishing as runner-up.
Reckless has also reached #2 in multiple established engine rating lists:
- SPCC: #2 with 3,833 Elo
- CCRL Blitz: #2 with 3,767 Elo
- CCRL 40/15: #2 with 3,612 Elo
These results, published for Reckless 0.9.0 in March 2026, demonstrate just how competitive this relatively young engine has become.
Like many leading modern engines, Reckless combines sophisticated search techniques with NNUE neural-network evaluation to assess positions and identify strong moves.
For chess players, it offers another exceptionally powerful engine to consult when studying complicated positions, checking variations, or preparing openings.

PlentyChess: Pushing Neural-Network Evaluation Forward
PlentyChess, developed by Patrick Leonhardt, is another leading open-source chess engine that has made a remarkable rise in competitive computer chess.
It has consistently ranked among the world’s top three engines on several major rating lists. Its published results include:
- SPCC: #3 with 3,789 Elo
- CEGT: #3 with 3,603 Elo
- CCRL: #2 with 3,642 Elo
These figures come from the engine’s official ranking summary, last updated in November 2025.
PlentyChess has also proven itself in elite competition, finishing fourth in the Premier Division of TCEC Season 29, behind Stockfish, Reckless, and Lc0.
But PlentyChess is particularly interesting for its technical innovations.
Its neural network uses a threat-input architecture, incorporating additional information about threats and attacked squares into positional evaluation. This approach has subsequently been adopted by other leading engines, including Stockfish and Reckless.
The engine’s neural network has been trained using more than 15 billion self-generated chess positions, including standard chess and Chess960 positions.
With its advanced evaluation and search methods, PlentyChess is a valuable addition to any serious chess analysis workflow.

Why Analyze with More Than One Chess Engine?
Even at the highest level, chess engines don’t always agree.
One engine may prefer a quiet positional move, while another finds an interesting tactical continuation. Comparing their recommendations can help you discover alternative plans and examine critical decisions more thoroughly.
With Reckless and PlentyChess joining Chessify’s existing lineup, you can:
- Compare evaluations: Check how different engines assess the same position.
- Explore alternative moves: Investigate variations that may deserve a closer look.
- Improve opening preparation: Examine critical lines with several strong engines.
- Analyze deeply: Use Chessify’s cloud computing power without relying on your own hardware.
Whether you’re preparing for a tournament or reviewing your latest game, having more top engines available gives you more ways to investigate the position.
