Separating Blitz and Online Games in Our Mega Game Database

In recent years, the world of chess has witnessed an unprecedented surge in the number of online games played, especially with the rise of online chess platforms and the global pandemic driving players to compete virtually. While this has opened up exciting opportunities for chess enthusiasts worldwide, it has also presented a unique challenge when it comes to organizing and analyzing the vast amount of game data available. Chessify is excited to present its solution to this issue: a new database filter that automatically separates blitz and online games from over-the-board classical games.

Why the Separation is Important

When chess players prepare for specific opponents, they meticulously study their games to analyze their preferred openings and strategic decisions. However, the inclusion of online and blitz games in chess databases has made this process more complex. These games, often played more casually, deviate from players' main opening repertoire and contain errors uncommon in serious over-the-board (OTB) tournaments, making them useless for pre-game preparations.

Traditional databases, like ChessBase's, lack a clear distinction between games played under classical time controls in OTB tournaments and those played in blitz or online events. As a result, players are left to manually sift through a multitude of games, making it challenging to prepare against opponents effectively. Recognizing this need, we have developed a unique feature that filters out the online and blitz tournaments from our Mega game database automatically.

How to Use It

You only need two clicks to filter out blitz and online games from the database. Use the "Advanced Search" button to open the search details as displayed in the screenshot below and then check the "Ignore Blitz & Rapid games" box to get a refined database of classical games. You may enter your opponent's name or the names of several players to find their classical games with either color. Watch our tutorial if you need more information on how to use Chessify’s Database & Reference section.

By separating online, blitz, and rapid games, chess players can now enjoy a more efficient and targeted preparation process. Our database is updated weekly, so you will always be able to find the latest games of your opponents and prepare accordingly.

Pricing and Access

You do not need any plan to filter out blitz and rapid games. All registered users have access to Chessify's game database and can search for specific players and games for free.

However, you need to be a subscriber to access the statistical part of the opening references which are based on the game database. The statistics include the moves played, the latest date they were played in, winning percentage, etc. Chessify subscription plans are priced from $7.99/month and all of them give full access to our database and all its features.
